Last Sunday (21/7), our church was blessed with youthful spirit and theological acumen, as two theological students from Jakarta Theological Seminary (STFT Jakarta) in Indonesia visited our congregation. Cheryl and Sarah are 3rd year and 2nd year students respectively, sent by the theological school for a field study program.

These young scholars took part in our main service and Sunday School with plenty of refreshing energy.

Certainly, the highlight of the day was the sermon delivered by Cheryl during the 11am service. The message was simple yet was still able to resonate deeply with all in attendance. Thoughtful reflections and the linking of the Bible to modern-day life came through in the sermon that inspired the congregation.

Meanwhile Sarah gave her time to support the Sunday School teachers. Sarah also spent meaningful and engaging time with the children and brought an air of freshness and creativity to the kids. It was truly lovely to see the joy and curiosity etched on the faces of the children as they learned more from their new friend!

We also had an informal get-together with them with the church's youth and young adults in the Vicar’s Room after lunch. This was a good opportunity for our youth to ask questions about their calling, and to share stories. The session was educative yet entertaining, with laughter bursting out of everyone. Both Cheryl and Sarah shared their journeys and experiences while at seminary which was very inspiring!

Overall, the visit of STFT students was truly a blessing for our church and for them. Cheryl and Sarah’s presence were invaluable during the service, Sunday School, and in the get-together. As Cheryl left the church, she stated how she felt at home thanks to the Indonesian food served for lunch and the hospitality!
